California Coronavirus COVID-19 Update March 19, 2020

California Issues Statewide Stay At Home Order March 19, 2020

On March 19, 2020 California issued a statewide order for all residents to stay at home except for the 16 critical infrastructure sectors that have been deemed necessary and critical by the federal government.  This order came from the California Department of Public Health and will be in place indefinitely.  The goal of it is to help flatten the curve and slow the spread of the coronavirus causing COVID-19.  You can read the full order at the link below (its only a single page).

California Coronavirus Case Numbers

As of March 19th, California has reported the following data related to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak.  

675  Confirmed Cases
16    Deaths

13   Cases  -  Age: 0-17
448 Cases  -  Age: 18-64
209 Cases  -  Age: 65+

Alameda County, Marin, Contra Costa, San Francisco,  San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties plus the City of Berkeley already had a similar order to shelter in place that started March 17th.  The primary exceptions stated were for essential activities, essential services, and also to work for essential businesses or government services.  Over half of the states positive cases were in the counties included in this shelter in place order.  

COVID-19 Testing In California

There are 22 state and county labs performing testing in California.  As of 6 PM on March 18th, nearly 17,000 tests have been performed.  Currently over 6,000 test results have been received, leaving around 10,000 that are currently pending.
