WHO made a statement that they are now charcterizing the COVID-19 outbreak as a pandemic. The WHO Director-General also stated that they are "deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and severity, and by the alarming levels of inaction." The situation report also added that the COVID-19 virus infects all age groups of people. However, the data suggests that two groups of people are at a higher risk of developing severe syptoms from the COVID-19 disease. These include both older people and those that have underlying medical conditions.

The global number of confirmed coronavirus cases rises to 40,554 (3,085 of those are new cases within the past 24 hours). China has 40,235 confirmed cases and 909 deaths. Outside of China there are 319 confirmed cases across 24 countries and 1 death reported.

11,821 of those have been located in China. 1795 of the cases in China are considered severe and there has been 259 deaths in China.

Number of confirmed cases of novel coronavirus increases to 314 globally. China - 309, Thailand - 2, Japan - 1, and Republic Of Korea - 1.

January 20, 2020

The Republic of Korea's NFP reported its first lab confirmed case of novel coronavirus.
As of January 20th, 282 confirmed cases of coronavirus (2019-nCoV) have been reported across four countries including, China, Thailand, Japan, and the Republic of Korea. 278 of those cases were located in China. 258 of those cases were from the Hubei Province. So far, six deaths have been reported in Wuhan City, China.

January 15, 2020

Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare reported its first case of lab confirmed novel coronavirus (2019-ncov) also originating from Wuhan, Hubei Province, China.

January 13, 2020

Thailand's Ministry of Public Health reported the first case of novel coronavirus that was lab confirmed and originated from Wuhan China.

January 12, 2020

China shared the novel coronavirus genetic sequence with other countries who were trying to develop diagnostic test kits.

January 11, 2020

The National Health Commission of China sent additional information to the WHO detailing that the outbreak was associated with an exposure in a seafood market in Wuhan City.

December 31, 2019

The China Office of the WHO was informed of cases of pneumonia with no known cause in Wuhan City within the Hubei Province of China.
A total of 44 patients who had pneumonia were reported to the WHO between December 31st, 2019 through January 3rd, 2020.
